RESILIENT LIGHTING
With natural disasters such as wild res,  oods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes increasing in occurrence all over the world, lighting solutions that can be used long-term while infrastructure is repaired are becoming a reality.

For years the industry has o ered “emergency lighting” – durable  xtures designed to provide illumination long enough for occupants to leave a build- ing safely in case of disaster or power
outage. The term “resilient lighting” may not be familiar to many lighting professionals yet, but it soon will be.
Resilient Lighting is an industry e ort to de ne and promote lighting that will function and serve building occupants in the a ermath of a natural or man-made disaster as well as during extended power outages or a terrorist a ack. According to the U.S. Energy Information Agency (EIA), 2016’s Hurricane Ma hew caused South Carolina resi- dents an average power outage of over 20 hours, with some experiencing delays of much longer.
