The streets of Northampton Township, Pa., located roughly 12 miles from Philadelphia, will be awash in blue light as part of Project Blue Light, a community-wide commemoration of law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty and a celebration of those who currently serve.
Project Blue Light began in 1989 when citizen Dolly Craig alerted C.O.P.S. (Concerns Of Police Survivors) that she would be putting two blue candles in her living room window in memorial to her departed son-in-law, Daniel Gleason, who had served with the Philadelphia Police Department, and one candle for her daughter (Danny’s wife) Pam, who was killed in an automobile accident in 1989. The C.O.P.S. organization adopted the Blue Light idea as a way for members of the community to honor those who serve and protect as well as those who have died in the line of duty.
Moonachie, N.J.-based Bulbrite has partnered with the charity Kids Can Make A Change to distribute blue light bulbs that encourage township residents join the “Go Blue” movement. Bulbrite is supplying blue light bulbs for Kids Can Make a Change members to hand out to residents who wish to participate by using the blue bulbs in their front porch light fixtures during the month of May. Kids Can Make A Change members will also be distributing approximately 500 blue ribbons for citizens to tie on their car in a show of support. As they are handing out the blue bulbs and ribbons, the organization will also have a large banner for the public to sign in support of the initiative.
