Westbury, N.Y.-based Crystorama Lighting has inked a licensing agreement with interior designer and TV personality Brian Patrick Flynn to create a new collection of eclectic lighting fixtures that will be introduced in January 2017 at Lightovation in Dallas.
Known for his bold use of color, juxtaposition of design styles, and mix of price points, Flynn’s indoor and outdoor spaces are regularly featured in U.S. home and garden publications, high-profile designer showhouses, and on popular decorating Web sites.
Flynn’s partnership with Crystorama represents his first home furnishings license. Starting with the lighting category made sense to Flynn because it’s often a challenge for designers to find the exact light fixture they need to fulfill their vision. “Most of the time, I might find the shape or style of chandelier that I’m looking for, but it won’t be the right scale or proportion. Or, it’s the right visual weight, but the finish is all wrong,” he explains. With his new collection for Crystorama, “We’ll be playing a lot with shape, proportion, materials, and finish to expand the range of creative options that are available to designers and consumers,” Flynn notes.
“We are very excited about our new partnership with Brian Patrick Flynn,” says Brad Kleinberg, President of Crystorama Lighting. “He brings an unconventional, urban-influenced viewpoint to his design projects, mixing patterns, colors, and textures in a range of exciting and dramatic ways. He understands the important role lighting can play in bringing a room to life and isn’t afraid to turn up the volume by doing something totally unexpected,” he adds.
Based in Atlanta, Flynn is the founder of Flynnside Out, a full-service TV and digital-based production company specializing in lifestyle-related content and interior and exterior home makeovers. He also produces, designs, decorates, and styles original spaces while sharing tips, takeaways, and forward-thinking ideas along the way.
Flynn’s respect for Crystorama traces back to the early days of his design career when he selected the Solaris orb pendant and Astro star-shaped chandelier for two projects. “I loved the look of them — especially the Astro, which has this very cool, Mid-Century Modern vibe. Crystorama’s designs are always very innovative and, while they look expensive, they’re priced so that people can easily afford them. They’re positioned squarely in the middle of the market, which is where I like my designs to be as well,” Flynn comments.
Flynn describes his aesthetic as “really eclectic and tailored,” adding, “I like just about every single style, from traditional and Country to Mid-Century Modern and transitional. What intrigues me most is to combine styles that aren’t usually paired together — like contemporary and casual — to create something new, or to take a vintage look that’s been around forever and make it completely original and relevant by changing the material or finish.”
