Our industry lost one of its brightest lights today.
It is with profound sorrow that the family of Karen (Kort) Krieger announce her passing on September 30, 2021, at her home in Ohio.
Karen is a beloved member of the lighting community and will be sorely missed by her family, many friends, and colleagues. She courageously battled first breast cancer and then ovarian cancer for more than two years. She was a warrior and a badass to the very end.
After graduating from the University of Central Florida, Karen got into the lighting business when she joined her cousin’s well-respected rep agency, Martha Graham & Associates. Her degree in Art History and her affinity and keen eye for design was a perfect fit. In addition, her natural business savvy and knack for seeing the big picture made her a formidable businesswoman.
Karen met her husband and business partner Brad Krieger in 2012 through mutual friends in the lighting industry. They soon knew they wanted a life together, and Karen moved to Ohio “for love” and joined Brad at BC Lights. Together they grew and expanded the agency. Their complementary skills, energy, passion, and love of the work benefitted the lines they carry and their customers.
In 2014 Brad and Karen married, and in 2017 they welcomed their daughter Alice Opal. Their second child is due (via surrogate) in early October.
Few souls were more positive and happy than Karen. She had a fantastic smile, and wherever she was, her laugh filled the air. She was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, businesswoman, and friend. Karen was the perfect combination of tender-hearted and tough as nails.
Karen will be missed beyond measure by her loving family and the many dear friends.
Should you feel that you want to honor Karen, a donation to the charity of your choice would be a wonderful way to do so.
