Emerald Expositions, the organizers of NY NOW®, announced that Ron Robinson is the winner of the NY NOW Legacy Award. This award is given for the recognition of a lifetime of dedication and contributions made in our industry. Nominations were submitted by friends, colleagues and retailers, and the winner chosen by top industry retailers and designers.
In 1978, Ron Robinson, Inc. opened its doors at Fred Segal on Melrose Avenue and has grown exponentially ever since. Recognized as one of the original pioneers involved in the Fred Segal brand’s growth, Robinson found it to be the perfect time to take his knowledge and expertise and build on the traditions he had learned, as well as make some of his own. Since then, his stores have continually changed the face of shopping and fashion.
Today, Ron Robinson boutiques are located on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles and on Fifth Street in Santa Monica. In the late ’70s, Robinson started as a men’s casual sportswear store then grew to offer other product categories including home decor.
“I see the fashion and good design in all product categories as a form of communication and expression — it is, in many respects, the ultimate personal point of view,” says Ron Robinson. “For me, being a retailer means providing people with the tools to express who they are, which is incredibly exciting. I want to procure and present the elite of design in a dynamic, organic environment; I want to curate cool. More than anything, I love the history and loyalty that we experience from the shoppers who continue to turn to u, for what’s unique and chic! I love to blend my knowledge of yesterday with the innovations and creativity of today and tomorrow, developing an ethos — Old World Values & New World Vision. I think it’s significant to do so, especially in today’s world. “
Robinson will be recognized at the first NY NOW Awards Party on Monday, August 12.
