Lighting showrooms that want to offer upscale solar lighting at moderate price points will be thrilled to learn that Zafferano America has just debuted a new line of Italian-designed, aesthetic solar-powered outdoor lighting using the same rechargeable battery technology found in the line’s award-winning portable accent lights paired with the grade of solar panels used to power residential homes.
“This is going to be a game-changer,” noted Barrett Gross, President & CEO of Zafferano America, which exhibits its line at Lightovation as well as the High Point and Atlanta Markets.
Constructed of solid aluminum in powder-coated finishes that have been salt-spray tested for 500 hours, the Solar by Zafferano fixtures come with mounting brackets that can be professionally installed into slate and concrete or buried into the ground for sturdiness. The fixtures can also be relocated to different areas of a property if so desired, thanks to the mounting technology.
Gross noted that the popularity of Zafferano’s cordless, rechargeable accent lights in restaurants, hospitality venues, and residential homes led to the development of a solar-powered line that can be used to illuminate pathways, landscaping, building exteriors, and driveways. In addition to eliminating the need to run electrical wiring on a property, Solar by Zafferano lights resonate with customers seeking “green” alternatives that reduce energy use without sacrificing style.
The initial collection consists of five styles (Home Solar path light; Solar Bollard; Solar Wall; and Solar Spot Light) to suit a variety of common applications. The solar panels are essentially the same grade used on residential roofs, according to Gross, and the rechargeable battery can be easily replaced when needed (after roughly one year of use). The fixtures need approximately six to eight hours of daylight to fully charge, and the illumination is a flattering 3000K color temperature.
Motion and dusk sensors power the lamp into high and low settings to preserve battery life, increasing the light’s intensity only when activity is detected.
In addition to the cost savings realized by tapping solar power instead of electricity, the Solar by Zafferano line also increases the versatility and flexibility of installation options since it is not dependent on electrical wiring. Retail prices range from $150 to $350, depending on fixture size. Two finishes are available – Rust and Dark Grey – to suit a variety of design schemes. The battery will last up to 3 hours in full-power mode, and 25 hours in energy-saving mode.
The Home Solar path light is offered in two heights (19.6″ and 39.9″) with a modern frame. In a novel twist for an exterior fixture, an optional base plate can be ordered to transform the 39.9″-high path light into a free-standing floor lamp for indoor use. The smaller model retails for $199 and the larger size retails for $350.
The Solar Bollard makes a bold design statement on a deck or along a path. Available in a Dark Grey finish, it retails for $199.
The Solar Wall is a low-profile wall pack that is designed to gently illuminate building or home exteriors without the hassle of transformers or wires. It retails for $150.
The Solar Spot Light has an adjustable head with a 28-degree beamspread and can be used to highlight a landscape feature. The battery lasts approximately 7 hours and it takes 5 to 8 hours to charge; it retails for $160.
Noted Gross, “Since the launch of our cordless lamps in 2018, we have replaced the old paradigm of expensive outdoor electrical wiring with a modern, cordless product that can move between indoors and outdoors at will. We are now bringing that same convenience, dependability, and Italian design to permanent outdoor solutions that elevate spaces as only good lighting can.”
