The entire lighting community, employees of Lutron Electronics, the executive team at the American Lighting Association (ALA) and its membership, mourn the loss of industry icon John McKiernan, vice chairman of Lutron Electronics.
Just last month, John was honored by his peers during the ALA Conference in Austin with his induction into the ALA’s Lighting Hall of Fame. Before receiving his award, John regaled the audience of retailers, reps, and manufacturers with a heartfelt and humorous speech of his adventures in the lighting business from the early years of his career through his present-day involvement with the organization which included holding the office of Chairman of the Board in 2006.
It was clear during his speech that the lighting and home control industry was much more than a job, and the people he worked with and met along the way were much more than colleagues. John was proud of the accomplishments he was a part of at Lutron, proud of the goals the ALA has been able to achieve over the years, and equally proud of his family.
According to Rick Angel, Vice President of Lutron, John’s induction into the ALA Hall of Fame during last month’s Conference meant a lot to him, his family, and his colleagues at Lutron.
