Most successful interior designers believe wall sconces are under-utilized in a home. Not only do these wall-mounted fixtures maintain a room’s uncluttered look by not taking up valuable floor space, but there is now an incredibly diverse amount of styles. In the past, sconces weren’t necessarily meant to be noticed. Today, decorative sconces can elevate the decor of a room and impart greater sophistication. While hospitality applications such as hotel corridors and restaurants need wall-mounted fixtures to measure less than four inches deep to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), sconces for residential use can be large in scale or can be completely unobtrusive. The choice is totally up to the homeowner or designer. In addition, sconces are available with incandescent lamping as well as energy-efficient versions using CFL or LED.
