This spring it seems everywhere I turn I see pastels. The light and airy appeal of these colors may have first graced the runway, but home lines are following suit to bring a vibrant, yet graceful air to interiors. In fact, many designers have already been infusing pastels into their work, including several rooms at last year’s Hampton Showhouse.
Recently, I have been inspired by a particular combination that pairs a soft pastel with a more vibrant hue. These two colors, Sweet Lilac and Tangerine Tango, were a part of Pantone’s Spring 2012 Fashion Color Report and I have since spotted them not only on the runway, but also on several home inspiration boards.
You probably remember Tangerine Tango as the bold and energizing 2012 Pantone Color of the Year. Pairing it with a soft lilac creates such a balanced, yet vivacious combo. The two have a timeless appeal that reminds me of the suburban glamour present in the 1960s – bright lipsticks, florals, and solid-hued dresses.
This combo also plays well with neutrals, be it chocolate brown or a brilliant white, allowing it to work in a number of spaces without giving an over-saturated appearance. Whatever the application or the influence, I’m certain we’ll be seeing more of this happy color couple in the coming months.
