On October 3rd, during the most highly attended American Lighting Association (ALA) Conference in some years – held this year in Huntington Beach, Calif. – the names of the winning companies and their respective energy-saving products were revealed during a special ceremony.
This annual competition, now in its 13th year, recognizes the most innovative energy-sipping lighting designs.
Since its creation in 2002, the Lighting for Tomorrow competition has recognized the best decorative, energy-efficient lighting fixtures in the residential market. The goal of the contest is to encourage manufacturers to develop well-designed, energy-efficient lighting products with the specific goal of increasing the market availability of ENERGY STARÆ fixtures.
This year, the contest expanded its categories to include solid-state lighting and controls that incorporate and enable superior efficiency, light quality, and new levels of integrated design. Lighting for Tomorrow award winners receive a full year of publicity and promotion at various trade shows and through the residential lighting programs of sponsor organizations in the U.S. and Canada.
The Lighting for Tomorrow competition is launched during the January edition of the International Lighting Market in Dallas. Beginning with the 2015 competition, new categories include LED and OLED fixtures, LED replacement lamps, LED retrofit kits, and lighting control devices.
The competition is organized by the American Lighting Association (ALA), the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE), and Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL).
