Responding to exhibitor and attendee concerns that the January 2021 Lightovation—Dallas International Lighting Show would start too close to New Year’s Day and on the heels of one of the most heavily traveled holiday vacation weeks, the Dallas Market Center has adjusted the dates for next January’s show and taken care that it does not directly conflict with other trade shows being held that month. Regarding the change, keep in mind that exhibitors’ merchandising staff and sales reps need to be on site before the Market doors are open to buyers.
Furthermore, there is a shift in the time of week for the show; in January 2021, opening day will be on Thursday instead of Wednesday and end on Sunday. This change is also in response to attendee and exhibitor preference. The summer edition of Lightovation, including the upcoming June 24-27, 2020 show, remains a Wednesday to Saturday pattern.
Dallas Market Center shifted Lightovation’s dates to one week earlier than in the past beginning with the January 2020 edition of the show. This decision was made after consulting with DMC’s Lighting Board of Governors, as well as other exhibitors, buyers, and sales representatives. However, following the first event under the new date pattern, the Lighting Board of Governors last month recommended beginning the January 2021 show a day later. The new January dates still provide ample distance between Lightovation and the International Builders’ Show, the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, and Design & Construction Week, as well as European trade events such as Maison & Objet.
“This new date pattern allows Lightovation to remain the first lighting show of the year, free and clear of other trade events, and aligned with buyer and exhibitor preferences,” says Cindy Morris, President & CEO of Dallas Market Center. “It’s critically important to offer event dates that are most convenient for exhibitors and loyal buyers visiting Lightovation from around the world.”
The need for Lightovation to remain concurrent with the Total Home & Gift Market was underscored by a post-market buyer survey, where 93 percent of lighting buyers indicated that they carried home accessories and 76 percent said they found it beneficial to be able to shop both shows during the same trip.
