2 Top Trends at Lightovation

The January Dallas Market offered plenty of distinctive lighting designs, however two trends stood out from the rest.

1. Asymmetrical Shapes
Perfectly square, round, or triangular shapes distinguish plenty of lighting fixtures and portables at the January Total Home + Gift Market; however, what really made news were the deliberately off-kilter lines of some of the most innovative designs from major lighting manufacturers. Expect the unexpected!

At Swarovski, the crystal prisms in the Glissando Collection create a multi-layered stack of sparkling light. Interlocking planes and angles radiate bands of color as the crystal holds and reflects light from its twisted silhouette.

At Kichler, the Aura Collection offers an asymmetrical grid in a Polished Nickel finish balancing soft orbs for a style that can suit Mid-Century Modern living spaces and Contemporary kitchens to Minimalistic dining rooms. It is available in a 1- or 3-light pendant and a 5- or 7-light chandelier.
The Lightshow Series for Platinum by Quoizel features individual LED light sources that can rotate either left or right to allow the user to change their positions however they see fit. The Polished Chrome finish and acrylic diffusers covers are combined perfectly to create a unified design.
At Tech, the Viaggio linear suspension fixture (measuring 26” high x 26” wide x 56” long) features glass spherical orbs that are artistically clustered both below and above. There are 2 finish options: a Black body contrasted against solid Brass arms with White glass globes, or Polished Nickel arms with mirrored Smoke glass globes (shown). The collection also includes a chandelier, flush-mount, and wall sconce.
At LBL, the Malena Collection has Pearl glass globes on Antique Bronze-finished arms. The canopy swivels for sloped ceilings or any other difficult installation. The collection includes a 9-light chandelier, a 3-light semi-flush mount that can be converted into a 3-light chandelier (shown) by using included stems, and a 1-light, large pendant.

2. Contrasting Finishes
Another style that turned the heads of showroom owners and lighting designers at the Dallas Market was the presence of contrasting finishes, especially Matte Black paired with Soft Gold/Brushed Brass. The elegant combination has a graceful “handsomeness” that can suit a variety of décors. In addition, Matte Black finishes were everywhere, gracing each and every lighting category.

The Mariette wall sconce, from Currey & Company, juxtaposes contemporary gold leaf with a satin black finish. The fluid shape – which measures 22.75” high x 8” wide by 11.5” deep – is made of wrought iron that has been molded into an illuminated organic work of art.

Featuring gently swooping lines and an open frame, the Ballard island chandelier from Quoizel boasts simple framework finished in a Dark Cherry with Bronze undertones that are an artful contrast to the painted Brass candle sleeves. The center stem with a Brass-finished downlight provides dedicated task lighting while the surrounding candles set the mood.

The Aventura Collection, from Artcraft, features a Matte Black frame that is multi-directional and has Satin Brass reflective metal shades.

The exterior Smyth lantern from Troy Lighting offers a Dark Bronze and Brushed Brass finish combination and is lamped with one 75-watt incandescent.

The FYRA series, from Swarovski, is distinguished by chunks of perfectly faceted crystal peeking through an open, handmade metal frame lantern finished in Black and Gold. The collection offers single and triple pendants in several sizes as well as two wall sconces.
The Tae chandelier, by LBL Lighting, features exposed hanging bulbs and an unadorned frame. Its simple form is ideal for a wide range of lighting applications including urban loft settings, foyers, and conference room spaces. Further enhancing the raw and Industrial beauty of the Tae is the Black finish paired with an Aged Brass socket. This customizable chandelier is available in either a circular or square shape.

The timeless, basket-style chandelier silhouette gets a modern makeover with the Davlin from Home Solutions Collection by Sea Gull Lighting. Traditional candelabra lamps are set within a teardrop-shaped frame in a Cerused Oak and Stardust finish combination. Shown here is the 6-light large hall/foyer pendant measuring 35.25” high x 26” diameter. The series is damp-rated and also offered as a 4-light, Medium hall/foyer pendant and a 3-light, Small hall/foyer pendant. ENERGY STAR®-qualified versions are available.
