The GUISE and PALMA collections from Vibia, based in Barcelona, have been chosen as recipients of the 2018 German Design Awards. Selected by the German Design Council, this award is given to projects representing an innovative design trend and pioneering contribution to worldwide design.
Designed by Stefan Diez, the GUISE collection explores the relationship between light and transparency. Crafted of precision-cut crystal embedded with a row of recessed LEDs, the light appears invisible within glass form while the delicately engraved surface radiates an intense glow. Antoni Arola’s PALMA collection was recognized for excellence in lighting product design. Appearing to float in mid-air, the LED glass pendant can seamlessly transform into a half-dome ceiling light by closing off the orb’s underside.
The collections, which Vibia will launch later this month, will be honored February 9 at the Ambiente Trade Fair in Frankfurt.
