Innovation & Quality Distinguish Hong Kong International Lighting Fair

enLightenment Magazine: Hong Kong International Lighting FairIt’s not too late to make plans to attend the Autumn Edition of the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair 2011, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and running October 27-30 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.
Last year’s 2010 fair demonstrated that the global lighting market is vibrant. A record-breaking 2,031 exhibitors from 35 countries and regions took part in the fair, representing a 13% increase over the previous year. In addition, the 30,000+ buyers also broke attendance records, showing an increase of 9% over 2010.
The enormously popular LED & Green Lighting Zones were home to 38% of exhibitors. These two sectors not only lead the way in trends, but are essential for connecting with quality suppliers. These highly relevant sectors are where demand has been growing exponentially. Not only are consumers seeking energy-saving, recyclable, renewable, and environmentally friendly products, but many governments around the world have implemented or are preparing to bring in regulations restricting or banning incandescent lighting. These zones display a range of innovations and fresh ideas for a wide range of green and LED lighting applications spanning residential, commercial, industrial, and architectural.
The Hall of Aurora continues to showcase branded lighting to a discerning audience of interior designers, architects, retailers, and contractors eager for new and interesting ideas. Also present at the fairground are sections specializing in Commercial Lighting; Household Lighting; Outdoor Lighting; Lighting Accessories, Parts & Components; Lighting Management, Design & Technology; and Trade Service & Publications.
“It has been well worth coming to this show because you can find suppliers here that don’t exhibit at the European fairs,” says Arto Mattila, product manager for Finntology Oy of Finland. “I am specifically visiting the booths [offering] LED tubes, panels, and downlights, but I am also taking the opportunity to look around to see new ideas in the world of LED lighting. I will definitely do business as a result of the contacts I have made here.”
“This is my first visit and I am impressed with the quality of the exhibitors; they really know their products,” states David Winston, creative director of Cleanroom Inc in the USA. “I am looking for components that we can get assembled in the Chinese mainland and shipped to the USA. I will make an initial order of about US$25,000 for about 600 units and then follow that up with regular orders. I think this show is fantastic. It is extremely well-organized and presented, with good signage and furniture.”
Hong Kong has a long and distinguished history as a supplier of lighting, and the industry has evolved over the years to move upmarket, thanks in part to the emphasis put on good design. The 5th Hong Kong Lighting Design Competition recognizes excellence in design and serves to encourage both young and existing talent. The winning entries of the open and student groups will be on display during the fair.
