The 16th edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) will take place October 27-30 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Last year, the four-day event attracted 2,360 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions and produced a strong visitor turn-out, with more than 38,000 buyers from 144 countries and regions in attendance. Next month’s fair will continue that expansion, allowing for more exhibitors to showcase their latest products and to demonstrate innovative technologies.
In a technology-driven market with a global emphasis on eco-consciousness, energy-efficient lighting and sustainable lighting products are in high demand. Hong Kong’s total exports of lighting products surged by 16 percent in 2013, reached US $1.4 billion. Exports to both traditional markets such as the U.S. (+19%), the EU (+12%), and emerging markets such as the Chinese Mainland and ASEAN (each +32%) recorded robust growth last year.
Both exhibitors and buyers greatly appreciate the numerous opportunities generated by the fair. For example, Japanese LED chip manufacturer Nichia Corp. will be exhibiting at the Autumn Edition for the ninth time. “We can take this good opportunity to promote our new LED chips to lighting manufacturers and to learn more about the market trends and needs,” says Kitty Ho, Senior Sales Manager of Nichia Chemical Hong Kong Ltd. “We have already talked to many manufacturers from Brazil, the Chinese Mainland, Europe, Hong Kong, and the USA. We expect to make 800-1,000 new contacts during the fair.”
Celso Antonio Tissot, Director of Luxion Iluminacao Ind. e Com. Ltda in Brazil, adds, “My company is a lighting manufacturer in Brazil, supplying luminaries for residential and commercial projects, and is an official supplier of lighting products for Accor Hotel, Ibis Hotel, Novotel Hotel, and BMW shops in Brazil.” Last fall was his first visit to the HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition), where his mission was to find LED components, reflectors, and lenses. “I [found] quality components at competitive prices and identified three potential suppliers for reflectors, 3-wire track systems, and LED track lights. It was a fruitful trip for me,” he states.
The fair offers a one-stop-shop for merchandising needs of all finished products, parts, and components for global buyers. Among the show’s highlights are the LED & Green Lighting Zones showcasing LED, energy-saving and other environmentally friendly products, which is expected to attract 800+ exhibitors offering green products to meet international sustainability requirements. The Hall of Aurora demonstrates the power of branding by housing top quality branded collections such as BJB, Citizen, CREE, EGLO, Ford, Fulham, Fumagalli, Megaman, Neo-Neon, Philips, Seoul Semiconductor, and Viribright. Other themed zones include the Advertising Lighting, Commercial Lighting, Household Lighting, Lighting Accessories, Parts & Components, and Outdoor Lighting.
The fair will also serve as an information exchange platform, where participants can keep up to date with market intelligence plus the latest technological developments and regulatory updates through a series of seminars addressing key issues of the lighting industry. The My Favorite Lighting Products Awards will return, promoting quality, innovative, and stylish designed lighting products in three categories: Architectural/Commercial Lighting, Decorative Household Lighting, and Outdoor Lighting. The winning products will be showcased at the fair.
In addition to HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair, two other fairs are also taking place in the same week: AsiaWorld-Expo: Eco Expo Asia and HKTDC Hong Kong International Building and Hardware Fair (29 October-1 November). Shuttle bus service will run between the HKCEC and AsiaWorld-Expo during the fairs. For more information, visit www.hktdc.com/hklightingfairae
