The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) New York City Section has established its first IESNYC Scholarship – available in Spring 2016 – to be awarded annually.
The $25,000 scholarship is particularly notable because it represents the first time a Section in the IES Society has supported education to such an extent. Applicants must be first-year students currently enrolled in a full-time graduate program as a degree candidate in the field of Architectural Lighting at an accredited college/university in New York State.
“The IESNYC has always been a strong voice for education within the lighting community,” says Brian Belluomini, President of the NY Section and Principal of Shimstone Design Studio. “Supporting meritorious students, is our Section’s way of inspiring the next generation of professionals in the field of architectural lighting.”
“In addition to the monetary award, the recipient will have the benefit of networking with our Emerging Professionals group, be invited to attend IESNYC and IES events, and have possible mentoring opportunities by established members of the lighting community,” says Caleb McKenzie, Vice President of the IESNYC, Chair of the Scholarships Committee, Co-Chair of the Richard Kelly Grant Board, and Principal of US Lighting.
The IESNYC programs year-round educational courses for members and professionals in allied fields, sponsors an annual Student Lighting Competition, awards annual Thesis Prizes, plus the Richard Kelly Grant.
