After a long illness, Edythe J. Director, 78, of Cromwell, Conn. and Boynton Beach, Fla., wife of Arthur Director, founder of Connecticut Lighting Centers, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 21. Surviving her are her husband, Art; son David and his wife Carol; daughter Judy Guzman; and five grandchildren. Besides her passion for family and singing in the choir at Congregation Adath Israel, Edythe was actively involved in helping her husband launch Connecticut Lighting Center in 1972, and was especially focused on growing the decorative accessories category as the number of stores grew. A former teacher and lifelong philanthropist, Edythe relished helping others in her community, taking on leadership roles in several organizations. She was most proud of her involvement in an interfaith dialogue group that met in the 1960s to unite community members from different backgrounds. Memorial contributions may be made to the Edythe and Arthur Family Fund at Congregation Adath Israel or the Arthur and Edythe Director Family Funds at Middlesex County Community Foundation, 211 South Main Street, Middletown, CT 06457.For messages of condolence to the family, please visit Doolittle Funeral Service, or feel free to leave a message to the family here.
