After a brave & grueling two-year fight with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), Dave Clark of Clark Communications Group passed away at home with family by his side on Friday, October 2. Dave founded his agency 32 years ago and focused on the lighting showroom channel. He was an active member of the American Lighting Association (ALA) and a long-time exhibitor at the Dallas Market Center’s International Lighting Show/Lightovation. For many years, he was a monthly contributor to Home Lighting & Accessories magazine, where he shared marketing and advertising advice in a column for lighting showrooms.
On September 29, the Quechee, Vt.-based advertising agency issued a statement to customers: “[as] the cancer has taken its toll, Dave had to set aside his ad work to focus on his health. The rest of us at Clark Communications Group continue to do what we always do: support our showroom clients and help them through these unusual pandemic times.”
The agency’s statement noted that since Dave’s diagnosis in 2018, “he tolerated the debilitating effects of chemo, periodic infections, and various medical procedures, but continued to thrive and enjoy life, especially sailing on his beloved boat, Bella, writing music, and playing gigs with various groups. Dave’s ever-present optimism in the face of severe medical challenges inspires us every day, and we will continue to do our best possible work for our clients. We are happy when our programs succeed for you, and look forward to many more years of collaboration.”
On a personal note, while battling cancer Dave was able to record a music CD “Shine!” with the band JukeJoynt in 2019-2020, which is now available through Yellow House Media; his first CD, “Imaginary World” was recorded in 2005 and is also offered by Yellow House Media. (One of the new tracks is “Helen’s Song,” a touching tribute to his wife.)
