Lighting showroom owners and buyers first encountered Campbell, Calif.-based NOON Home, which launched in 2017, at Lightfair. The next year the company leased space in Spectrum during Lightovation at the Dallas Market Center, followed by an exhibit booth at the American Lighting Association (ALA) Conference in 2018.
Co-founded by Annie Cheung and Will Lark – with the backing of initial investors Lux Capital, Shasta Ventures, and Sway Ventures – the NOON Lighting System was designed as a DIY product intended to eliminate many of the onboarding challenges consumers face when attempting to install a control solution themselves. NOON’s scene-based lighting system coordinates all the lights in a room with a one-touch keypad and works with homeowners’ existing lights using patented technology. What made NOON especially attractive was the versatility of being controlled three ways: at the light switch, by an iOS and Android app, or through voice command (i.e. Amazon Alexa).
Finding the right distribution channel, however, has proven to be a challenge. Originally offered through Home Depot, Best Buy, and B8ta stores as well as direct from its web site, NOON Home then explored the lighting showroom channel through its presence at trade shows. Most recently, the system is sold primarily through Ferguson Enterprises.
Last week, it was announced that Osterville, Mass.-based Racepoint Energy – a leader in energy solutions for homes and businesses that also owns the luxury whole-home systems manufacturer Savant Lighting Controls – has acquired NOON Home. The acquisition is expected to grow both Racepoint Energy and Savant’s lighting control offerings, including the addition of NOON’s unique keypad style to the Savant keypad lineup.
“I am pleased to officially announce the addition of NOON to our growing list of industry-leading brands, including Savant, Racepoint Energy, and Artison,” explains Robert Madonna, CEO of both Racepoint Energy and Savant. “The experience and expertise of the team at NOON will enable us to design unique solutions, making advanced energy and lighting automation available for a broad range of smart home projects.”
The integrated Racepoint Energy and NOON team will be focused on designing unique product and software solutions that can be sold into both the custom installation and distribution channels. According to Racepoint Energy, early development initiatives will include integration into the Savant smart home ecosystem, with plans to offer NOON solutions on the Savant Store.
Savant Systems, LLC has become a recognized leader in home control and automation and is considered to be one of the fastest-growing smart home companies in the luxury and mid-markets. Its technology brings together the four pillars of automation – climate, lighting, entertainment, and energy – together in a single application interface for the homeowner. This comprehensive whole-home control system is compatible with iOS and Android and available through Magnolia Design Centers and Savant’s global network of authorized integrators.
