Help Reward Female Leadership With a Special Award

If this year has felt like an endless series of cancellations, here’s some good news. The Women in Lighting (WIL) Committee of the American Lighting Association (ALA) has announced nominations are now open for its 3rd Annual Women in Lighting Leadership Award. The 2020 award will be presented in person during the January 7-10, 2021 Lightovation show at the Dallas Market Center.

The annual award recognizes a female member of the lighting industry for her role in at least two of the following activities within the past two years:

  1. Achievement/leadership in the lighting industry
  2. Support of the ALA
  3. Mentoring of other women in the lighting industry
  4. Devotion to her community through philanthropy, volunteer work, or outstanding active support/participation.

The recipient must be a member of the ALA, nominated by an ALA member, and voted upon by the WIL Committee.

Last year’s recipient of the Women in Lighting Leadership Award was Jilla Farzan, Executive Vice President of California-based lighting manufacturer Nora Lighting.

The inaugural award went to Texas-based lighting retailer Norma Cooper, who founded Lighting Etc. in Fort Worth in the early 1980s.

Nominations for the 2020 Women in Lighting Leadership Award will be accepted until October 1. Visit www.lightingwomen.com to nominate any deserving individual.
